Pittsburgh Ordinance Encourages Green Buildings: Legislation
is being introduced that would have the city of Pittsburgh encourage
contractors to erect "green" buildings. City Councilman Bill
Peduto has submitted a resolution to the city's law department and and
planning department to urge developers to use "green" principles
in their projects...such as energy efficiency, use of recycled building
materials and using redeveloped land. Peduto says in return zoning law
exceptions, not financial incentives, would be given to the developers.
Green Building Alliance Executive Director Rebecca Flora says studies
have shown these buildings encouraged employee productivity and save
money in energy costs. Peduto says the law and planning departments
have one month to review the specifics of his legislation. Article taken
